Cops investigating after man's body found in 'suspicious' circumstances in Manchester's Northern Qua

POLICE are investigating after a young man was found dead in "suspicious" circumstances in Manchester.

The man, believed to be aged in his 20s, was discovered collapsed in the city's Northern Quarter but was later pronounced dead in the early hours of the morning.

The area where the body was discovered is regularly visited by police and paramedics to deal with the Spice epidemic gripping Manchester.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem to establish how the man died will be carried out in due course.

They were called to the scene at 1.40am by hospital staff but the man was pronounced dead shortly after.

Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 1.40am on Wednesday, hospital staff informed police that a man had been found unconscious on Spear Street near Piccadilly.

“Ambulance services attended and discovered the body of a man believed to be in his 20s.

“Detectives have been carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the man’s identity, locate his next-of-kin and establish the cause of death. These enquiries are ongoing.”

The area has been taped off while forensic officers comb for clues.
